Please note, i use Trainz 2010, Engineers Edition.The process may be slightly different on other versions of the game.
Downloading Content
So, you’ve (hopefully) finished installing trainz annd want more content. Here’s how to do it
Firstly bring up Trainzlauncher (the icon with the American looking engine). There are several different options. We are going to click on the ‘Content’ option
This should open up a new tab with a grid of thumbnails If not, go to ‘file’-‘view,’ and click on ‘Medium thumbnail’ to get this type of display. This is a lot better than list view as it shows you what you can download
On the side are a list of boxes. Click on ‘search’ and type what you want to download. e.g Headcorn
Highlight the thumbnail you want and drag it to the top box marked as ‘download helper’
In the same box there is a small icon ‘Start’. Click this and the thumbnail that was dragged into the box will become a loading bar. This may take a few minute depending on the size of the file and specificatiion of the device you are using. A good internet connection also helps.
When the download is complete a PC symbol will appear on the thumbnail (top right corner). A Yellow question mark may also appear. This is known as ‘Missing dependencies’. It depends what settings you use as a list may appear in the download helper. Click ‘Stop as this is trying to download everything in the route. You do not want this as most of this is already included when you first installed Trainz
What you should do, is right click on the ‘Missing Dependencies’. A drop down menu should appear- scroll down and click on ‘View dependencies’.
A pop up window should appear. In this is a list of names and numbers. There are 3 small icons to know about. 1. A sandy coloured circle – Local dependency, 2. a grey box with a question mark- a ‘Unknown dependency’ and 3. a red and black ‘DS’ symbol ‘Download station depemdemcy. 1 is local which means it has already installed. 2. means that Trainz can not find this on its database. The best way to deal with this is to copy and paste the kuid (numbers) into Google and search the internet. This is a long process and is usually not worth the effort. Finally the most important 3, Means it is in the Trainz download station database. These can be accessed this way –>
Click the ‘view in main list icon’ and it will direct you to another grid of thumbnails. On the left the search box now has ‘Asset Kuid X‘ and a drop down menu should appear
Scroll through the drop down menu and click on ‘Location’ and ‘Download Station’. Thius directs you to a third grid of thumbnails, Drag and drop these into ‘Download helper’ and the process starts again.
When you have downloaded anything extra. You sholud end up with a display like this. You can now go into Trainz Launcher- Surveyor, play this route and enjoy. Hope this has been helpful
